The event includes live performances and exhibition of youth art works in dance, music, architectural design, and visual arts, as well as community based research, guest speakers, and panel discussions. Lessons learned from arts education community partnerships in South and Central Los Angeles provide the creative pulse for the gathering. UCLA Arts’ Third Annual ArtsBridge Symposium is an important venue for sharing successful teaching and learning strategies in the arts and urban schooling, and celebrates both individual and social transformation. An original compendium of literary works by ArtsBridge participants will be unveiled at the event.
The 2009 ArtsBridge Symposium is made possible through the generous financial support of the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture, and the efforts of tenacious community members and dedicated ArtsBridge staff: Amy Shimshon-Santo, Ph.D. (Director), Lauryn Salazar, Ph.D. Candidate Ethnomusicology (Program Assistant), Brittany Maxwell, Design|Media Arts Alumna (Program Assistant).
